1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics

(e.g. stage performance in rock video, dance routine)

Briteny spears video 'baby one more time' conforms to the music video genre of pop, it includes different outfits, bright colours, dance routines and different settings.

2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals


There is no relagtionship between the lyrics and the visuals, the song talks about loneliness ad throught the whole video she is with backup dancers and 'school friends'

3. There is a relationship between music and visuals

Britany lipsinks the whole song even when she is dacing and it is cut to different songs.

4. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close

ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their

work (a visual style). 

There is a scene throught the video in which it is a close up of britany by herself without any dancing
hihglighting that she is the main event of the video, this scene is reccuring throuht the vid.

5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within

screens, telescopes, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the

female body. 

The school unifrom britany wears in the video is extremely provocative with short skirts and low cut
tops, the dancing scenes also include crop tops but not in a sexualised manner.

6. There is often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other

music videos etc).

The solo close up of her is very similar to a music video we have previously looked at- Sinead
O'connor- nothing compares to you but i dont think there is an intertextual reference throught the
video, only in scenes.
