I know this is the wrong question but I've already answered it and dont want to get rid of it^^
- How can magazines be aimed at a range of audiences? (For example, MOJO is aimed at a range of audience e.g a more niche, older, predominantly male audience with an average age of 41) (5 marks)
Magazines can be aimed at a range of different audiences through their use of diversified platforms. For example, as the world of technology is evolving, the print is becoming outdated, less common and will eventually be discontinued. Printed copies of magazines generally appeal most to older audiences in which they are hezitant to move to digital copies of the magazine and explore other platforms which come with a range of exclusive bonuses. Magazines that offer an online platform can ajust their tagret audiences to more than one target audience. Although they may have a primary audience with an average age of 41, the move to an online platform may invite a younger secondary audience to discover their product ranging their audience.
- State one audience category that is more likely to read MOJO (go into detail about demographics & NRS) (5 marks)
Mojo's initial target audience are middle-aged men, Mojo aims to target this demographic by satisfying their needs- this is done through means such as using sophisticated language throughout the text and identifying and adjusting content in accordance to their audience. For example in their printed copy about 'Pink Floyd' advertisements are aimed at middle-aged men promoting things like cupboards and furniture. Mojos magazine has a large readership from middle-class men due to the use of the elaborate code in their print only containing formal language which is generally associated with those from middle-class backgrounds. As the magazine is a quality monthly magazine it automatically attracts those within the higher classes and does not attract a working-class audience as much as weekly magazines.
- Explain how readers may get pleasure from reading Magazines. You may wish to refer to the Uses & Gratifications theory (10 marks)
Many audiences use magazines as a way to identify themselves, for example, Mojo magazine celebrates values and culture associated with classic rock- their fans which identify themselves as part of the genre are offered a shared identity with many other fans who feel the same way. The front cover of Mojo also features a legendary musician on its front cover each month which gives audiences an idol to aspire to be and someone to look up to.
In addition to this many audiences use magazines as a way to escape from reality. Mojo magazine gives readers insight into their favourite artists lavish lifestyles offering audiences a place to 'go' and escape with their favourite stars and artists. This escape mechanism becomes a friend to some who are unhappy or struggling in their real-life situations and turn to it to explore the lives of those they so greatly admire.

- Analyse the representation of musicians, from any MOJO Magazine front cover you have studied. (10 marks)
On the cover of Mojo's 'Pink Floyd' magazine, the band is photographed looking directly into the camera, which seems as though they are looking directly towards the audience. This direct address paired with the serious expression on their face makes the audience feel actively involved in the text and seems personalised for every person. By directly addressing the audience Mojo gains loyal readership and begin to gain a personal bond between them and the magazine.
The musicians on the front of 'Pink Floyds' magazine all have a blank, stern expression on their face, which is common among each member in the band. The stern expression upholds many common conventions about classic rock reflecting the genre. This may also mirror the anger expressed in the loud, abrupt nature of the music which is another convention among the classic rock genre. This look further implies dominance and control on the audience upholding the classic stereotype that men are better than women, which explains there lack of female readership.

Although your first question wasn’t part of the exam itself, it is a perfect answer!
ReplyDelete1. 4/5
A very good answer but try and explain a bit more of the demographic of the target audiences you are discussing to ensure top marks.
SP – Hesitant
2. 5/5
Excellent! A very strong, detailed response.
3. 8/10
To get the full 10 marks you are looking ideally for 3 paragraphs (this was something that was discussed during my training day). Nevertheless, this is an incredibly strong and well structured response.
4. 4/10
Your second paragraph answers the question, however your first paragraph strays quite a bit. Remember you are looking at representation: male dominance, male stereotypes, white ethnicity representations, etc…
5. 1/1
6. 2/2

24/33 – JUST on your level 7. You fell down on Q4, so make sure you read the question very carefully. I’ve given you some examples of representations that you could look at.
I’m not going to ask you to reflect and perfect this exam as you will be revising from it/rewriting your responses when we come to our revision term. I DO however need you to read very carefully what I have said in response to all your answers.
